The American flag consists of 13 horizontal strips and the alternating white strips along with a blue rectangle which has 50 stars. National flags have symbolic meanings and represent a nation’s pride. In the past, flags were used as military standards mostly used as field signs. As long as the standard would be held high, it would signal that war rages on. Falling of a military standard would seriously demoralize the opposing army and would signal the end of the war. This concept was later adopted by nations and national flags came into existence. Maritime flags held a special importance and the “age of the sail” saw a major use of it. The American flag has been alerted many times as every new state joining the union would add a star to the American flag.  State flags were than overshadowed by the American national flag.  Oklahoma adopted its first state flag 4 years after joining statehood. The Oklahoma flag features an olive branch for European Americans and calumet which represents Native Americans.

National flags symbolize a country and the flag is waved on government and private building.  A national flag usually incorporate something symbolic in them. The flag is given protocol and there are some general rules set for a national flag. An American flag is not just a flag for the Americans but represents something much more than that. It represents religious and political freedom and the flag has come to symbolize liberty and equality for all. The flag has gone through many hardships and has been a beacon of hope for many. The question on who made the first flag is still unanswered and historians disagree on this. The flag however went through some major changes. The original flag only consisted of the 13 colonies that rebelled against the colonial rule.  As the new states joined in the flag was altered and changed.  When Oklahoma joined the union, the Oklahoma flag was adopted along with the American flag.

Many states have their own state flags like Oklahoma which has its own Oklahoma flag.After joining the union all the states adopted the American flag and since then the flag has come to symbolize honor, liberty and strength. Apart from having a national flag, many US states have state flags.

The original state Oklahoma flag was red in color but was discarded in the 20’s as red become a color of communism. Today Oklahoma has its own state flag. The old flag had a star in the middle of a rectangle with the number 46.  The flag has been changed and altered.

The Oklahoma flag however is just a state flags and people from Oklahoma take pride in holding the American flag. The state flag is just a symbol for the state.  Most of the flags are unique from the others but some flags resemble each other. Some flags are more popular than others like the American flag which is renowned all over the world and is known as the starts and stripes.
